How to create an Ubuntu custom keyboard shortcuts

Here are the steps to follow to create a Ubuntu Custom keyboard shortcut.

  1. First Install Gnome Panel package
 sudo apt-get install --no-install-recommends gnome-panel
 gnome-desktop-item-edit --create-new ~/Desktop
  1. Type: Select the type of your shortcut. If it is some command that needs to be executed in the Terminal, for example, a XAMPP application. Then select Application in Terminal.

  2. Name: Give a name to your shortcut, whatever you want.

  3. Enter the command that needs to be executed when one click on your create shortcut. For example, in the below screenshot we want to run XAMPP GUI interface, thus we have selected the script that does that. In the same way, you select your desired application.

  4. After all above click on the OK button.


  1. Now right click on the created shortcut and select Allow launching.
